Zaveola Coleman has a long history of serving, whether it be for her hometown village of Hazel Crest as the Veteran Commissioner, in her positions working as an educator, or in her 24 years of military service. Currently a retired veteran, she is an officer and member of the 8th Infantry National Guard Association of Illinois. Within The Association, she serves as the chaplain and chairperson of the Health and Wellness committee, and also as a member of both the Special Events and Scholarship committees. She’s an active member of the Dorie Miller 915 American Legion Post where she sits on the Housing committee. Zaveola, who has a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in Chicago, first became involved with the democratic process during the 2008 inauguration and hasn’t looked back since. She finds it a privilege to give back through DWSS, and firmly believes in the importance of supporting the process and planting seeds that nourish and grow the nation.
